The Local Haps: July 20th - July 27th

I spent most of my last weekend outside biking around White Rock Lake, doing yoga, running and even trying out the new Lakewood Brewing Company beer garden. Needless to say, I am staying away from the great outdoors for a while until it cools down. If anything, I'll probably try to attend more of these cool and air-conditioned screenings in the coming week. Check them out after the jump.

Monday, July 20th
Alamo Drafthouse: First up is another installment of the Mondo X Chiller series, this time celebrating the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON vinyl at 8:35 pm. In addition, there's also a special THE LAST STARFIGHTER screening at 7:15 pm.

Tuesday, July 21st
Alamo Drafthouse: The Hopped Up Cinema series continues with No Label Brewing and director Joe Dante's THE 'BURBS at 8:00. The $25 ticket will get you into the movie where you will get a collectible pint glass and try some of No Label's rare beers including some that were brewed just for this event.

Wednesday, July 23rd
Alamo Drafthouse:  BACK TO THE FUTURE is one of the most quotable movies of all time, so of course there's a Quote-Along at 9:15 pm.

Texas Theatre: It seems to be unofficial NATIONAL LAMPOON week in Dallas because we have NATIONAL LAMPOON'S EUROPEAN VACATION then the Drafthouse will have their own VACATION screening later in the week.

Thursday, July 24th
Alamo Drafthouse: The early days of the personal computer and the internet were time filled with possibilities. WARGAMES comes from a younger and simpler time that actually predicted a lot of the ways that we engage in warfare now.

Granada Theater: The Good Records movie music series continues this week with a much more classic double feature. The first movie is the Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators) documentary, YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME then there's BE HERE TO LOVE ME, this one dealing with the life and times of Townes Van Zandt. The movies start at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm respectively and as always are $3.

Friday, July 25th
Granada Theater: Tonight you can feel like a tough guy while watching SILVERADO. While this ensemble Western might not get the love movies starring Clint Eastwood or John Wayne do, it's still a fun movie AND it's directed by EMPIRE STRIKES BACK director Lawrence Kasdan.

Texas Theatre: As part of their Cinewilde series, there will be a special screening of THE BROKEN HEARTS CLUB.

Saturday, July 26th
Alamo Drafthouse: The Master Pancake bros are back! This time they're doing the Choose Your Own Pancake show where you bring your own movie and they will choose the best one to make fun of. It seems that the Drafthouse boys are doing the Christmas in July because they're hosting a screening of NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION in the middle of the day at 3:45 pm.

Sunday, July 27th
Alamo Drafthouse: Continuing the awesome series of Preston Sturges movies is THE MIRACLE OF MORGAN'S CREEK at 1 pm. At the time the movie was breaking a lot of social taboos dealing with casual hook ups and unwanted pregnancies. Then at 4:00 pm, there's THE FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR about a kid that is somehow connected to a crashed UFO after he wakes up from an 8 year coma not having aged a day. Extraterrestrial hijinks will ensue.
