The Local Haps: March 30th - April 5th

After a week off recovering from South By Southwest, I'm back with a plethora of screenings all throughout DFW to keep you busy. I'll be real, the weather is way too nice to be inside watching movies. Still, if you've already seen the excellent WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS and IT FOLLOWS, then check out these special screenings below

Monday, March 30th
Alamo Drafthouse: Remember when Val Kilmer was a leading actor? Yeah, I kind of do too. One such movie was THE SAINT, about a master thief, and it screens at 7:00 pm. Then at 7:30 pm, celebrating the release of the HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL poster, there will be a special screening. Then finally, every college student's favorite movie, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, will be shown as a quote along.

Tuesday, March 31st
Alamo Drafthouse: THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE traumatized many a-kid's childhoods and you can re-live what can only be described as the single most tragic death in the history of cinema at 8:00 pm. Then, the prototypical midnight movie, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW will screen once again at 9:15 pm. Standard Drafthouse don't apply here, so be prepared if this is somehow your first time seeing the movie.

Wednesday, April 1st
Alamo Drafthouse: Steve McQueen is a bad ass. There's no question about it. But what happens when you pair him with a classic '68 Mustang and a no-nonsense attitude? You get BULLITT and you can check it out at 8:30 pm. And finally don't don't you forget about this 30th anniversary BREAKFAST CLUB screening at 8:00 pm.

Sundown At Granada: One of the best comedies that also happens to be adapted, THE NAKED GUN will be shown on the roof at 8 pm. As always, you can expect half off whiskey specials.

Thursday, April 2nd
Alamo Drafthouse: Before making terrible career choices, David Spade was in TOMMY BOY aka one of the best comedies of ever. You can check it out at 7:00 pm.

Granada Theater: A round of double feature of an allegorical sci-fi noir and a cautionary tale of the dark side of the American Dream starting at 7:00 pm with BLADE RUNNER and then SCARFACE. Both $3 each along with drink specials!

Texas Theatre: There's a screening of KUMIKO, THE TREASURE HUNTER at 7:00 pm. This one comes highly praised from colleagues that saw it last year. Then at 9:00 pm, there is a special screening of the 4K seminal movie and personal shame-list entry, CITIZEN KANE.

Saturday, April 4th
Alamo Drafthouse: PICK OF THE WEEK! The Not So Fast But Very Furious marathon consists of all 7 movies. It's 14 hours of vehicular mayhem and more importantly it's a way of seeing the franchise's evolution from being a POINT BREAK knock-off to the powerhouse franchise it is today. The race begins at 10:00 am

Sunday, April 5th
Alamo Drafthouse: To celebrate Easter and imaginary characters, there will be a screening of the classic James Stewart joint, HARVEY about a man whose best friend is a six foot imaginary rabbit?

Granada Theater: It's a double  dose of Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn with a  double feature SWINGERS and MADE.

Texas Theatre: Today is an Orson Welles double feature starting with a 5:00 pm encore screening of CITIZEN KANE and then at 7:30 pm, THE MAGICIAN, the documentary about the insanely talented director.
