The Local Haps: February 9th - February 15th

I'll be honest, I thought there would be way more romance related movies this week, but there's a few really good special screenings this week that are worth checking out whether you're single or with your favorite lady/dude. Check them out after the break!

Monday, February 9th
Alamo Drafthouse: The always secret AGFA screening is at 8:00 pm tonight. The selection has gotten increasingly more interesting and rare. It should be a treat and for $1 a ticket, it's a no-brainer.

Texas Theatre:  THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY started its run last week and if you didn't catch it, you should see during one of these evenings. Today's screening is at 8:50 pm. And there's a 35mm print screening of Oscar-nominated IDA at 7:00 pm all of this week.

Tuesday, February 10th
Alamo Drafthouse:  I'm a sucker for horror anthologies. It always feels like you get more bang for your buck. So this month's Video Vortex is the VHS-only anthology, GRIM PRAIRIE TALES, is especially awesome. The movie at 9:00 pm.

Wednesday, February 11th
Alamo Drafthouse: For those that just don't care for the upcoming corporate holiday, TOTALLY 80'S: THE LOVE BITES SING ALONG will be just for you. There's going to be some rad power ballads and drunk people. Sounds like a good time.

Sundown At Granada: The Whiskey Wednesday movie this week is JERRY MAGUIRE, aka your dad's favorite movie. It starts at 8 pm. Interestingly, one of my new favorite podcasts, The Canon did an episode on this movie. It's worth a listen here.

Thursday, February 12th
Angelika Dallas: As part of their Oscar Classics series, the Angelika is showing the Gene Kelly Oscar Winner, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at 7:00 pm.

Texas Theatre: Comedian David Cross directed a movie that's unique. Cross made this movie all by himself and he's distributing it and using a "pay what you want" method in theaters. HITS is apparently a take on the "YouTube" mentality and everyone wanting to find fame online

Friday, February 13th
Texas Theatre: PINK FLAMINGOS is playing tonight. To be honest, I'm not too sure about this movie or its history, but the TT guys are super excited so go and check it out at 9:00 pm.

Saturday, February 14th
Alamo Drafthouse: For Valentine's Day, there will be a special MY BLOODY VALENTINE screening at 10:30 pm.

Texas Theatre:  THE TURNING POINT along with a pre-screening performance of the Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet, begins at 5:00 pm.

Sunday, February 15th
Alamo Drafthouse: PICK OF THE WEEK! Today there's a very special duo of screenings both featuring the Richardson Symphony orchestra doing a live score to JURASSIC PARK at 3:00 pm and ROCKY at 7:00 pm.  And if you're into musicals and what not, WEST SIDE STORY plays at noon.
