The Local Haps: October 14th - October 19th



Do you have your Halloween costume picked out yet? Only a couple more weeks left. In The Local Haps for this week, there are a plethora of Halloween movies to see, a shorts feature, and, in my pick of the week, a classic film playing in glorious 35mm.

Tuesday, October 14th
Alamo Drafthouse: Grab your Audrey 2 and join the Action Pack for THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS SING-ALONG at 7 p.m. If something obscure is more your cup of tea, then the boys of Video Vortex, the monthly VHS series, are showing HAUNTEDWEEN 9 p.m.


Wednesday, October 15th

Alamo Drafthouse: The founder of Texas Frightmare Weekend, Lloyd Cryer, will lead a special conversation followed by a FREE screening of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD at 7 p.m..

Granada Theater: Another free film on top of the Sundown at the Granada. This week at 8:30 p.m....it's RUSHMORE

Angelika Dallas: Get your culture on with a presentation of The Globe on Screen with TAMING OF THE SHREW at 2 p.m.


Thursday, October 16th

Alamo Drafthouse: In promotion for Sean Astin and Ke Huy Quan in town for Dallas Comic-Con this weekend, there will be a special presentation of THE GOONIES at 7:20 p.m. Also, there will be a showing of the Tim Burton classic BATMAN at 8:15 p.m.

Angelika Dallas: Hichtocktober is back with another classic, VERTIGO, at 8 p.m.

Texas Theatre: My pick of the week! The class of '39 presents a special 35mm showing of a fantastic classic, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON at 7:30 followed by a Matt Tolentino live performance after the film.



Friday, October 17th

Alamo Drafthouse: Fresh from Fantastic Fest, DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS DEAD will play at 11:30 p.m., if Nazi zombies are your thing. 

Texas Theatre: An encore showing of MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON will happen at 7 p.m.

Angelika Dallas: Another cult favorite is coming to the big screen with the Angelika after-hours. This week is NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET at 11:30 p.m.



Saturday, October 18th

Alamo Drafthouse: If you haven't been to a cartoon cereal party, then you should definitely try it out! It's two hours of Saturday morning cartoons, plus all-you-can-eat sugary cereal that you loved as a kid. This week, the theme is Halloween, so put on your most comfy pajamas because the show starts at 10 a.m.


Sunday, October 20th

Alamo Drafthouse: Get ready for all the Arnold impressions you can stomach...Master Pancake presents PREDATOR at 4 p.m. Get to da Theatreeeeeeeeeeee!

Texas Theatre: Starting at 1 p.m., the Blood Bath VI Film Fest will take over the Texas Theatre. Come spend the day watching horror shorts!
