This is a bit of a light week with awesome movie events, but what we get is actually pretty awesome. I'll try to get this post updated as the theaters release more of their schedules.
Tuesday, May 27th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE:
The WIZARD OF OZ 4K restoration will be showing at 7:00pm. From what I understand it's absolutely gorgeous, it's screening as part of the "Big Bads" series for the month of May.
Wednesday, May 28th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE: The Girlie Night ENCHANTED Quote-Along 7:00pm. This is in my opinion, one of the more underrated comedies. It's a brilliant satire of the "Disney princess" subgenre and yet it's a fun entry into the genre.
Thursday, May 29th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE:
Tough Guy Cinema is screening seminal goth sensation THE MATRIX at 7:00pm. You know you want to see this on the big screen again.
TEXAS THEATRE:
ANITA: SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER screens at 8:00pm. In the wake of the tragedy in UCSB shootings, it seems like a good time to look at this case of politics and sexual harassment and racism that Anita Hill experienced as she testified against Senator Clarence Thomas. Pretty harsh but necessary subject that needs to be talked about more. There will also be an arts and craft workshop at 7:30pm in the lobby.
Friday, May 30th,
TEXAS THEATRE:
A 35mm print of 1988's HAIRSPRAY will be screening at 8:00pm.
Saturday, May 31st
KLYDE WARREN PARK:
The free Classics at Klyde Warren Park series will conclude with the classic mistaken identity thriller, NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Starts at 8pm or when the sun goes down. I just saw this for the first time, and it was an amazing movie. Be warned: the weather report as of now is stating there might be some rain so keep that in mind.
TEXAS THEATRE:
They will be screening the highly acclaimed BLUE RUIN starting today at 7:00pm. Our own Jonesy saw this back in Fantastic Fest last year and she loved it. And you know that she know's what's up.
