We're about half way through the year and in the dead of summer. It's slowly climbing to 100 degrees everyday here in Dallas, so sometimes it's a very easy decision just to stay in, chill on the couch, and watch a movie. If you're like me and sometimes 100 degrees doesn't sound appealing, here are some titles to keep you company.
This is a fascinating documentary about the Toynbee tiles that were deposited all over the north eastern United States with no explanation to their origin or meaning. One man, Justin Duerr, set out to discover their meaning scavenging through old newspaper articles and the Internet for any leads. It's an unconventional detective story that has you on the edge of your seat as Duerr comes closer and closer to discovering the identity of the artist.
These books were my staples during my childhood. My friends and I always traded and had to have the latest story. And needless to say, I was stoked when they made a series. It's comparable to Nickelodeon's ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?, which is also fabulous, but this series would be a great trek down memory lane.
Drafthouse Films not only acquire new and obscure films, but they also like to distribute little gems from the past. This such gem was shown at this past Fantastic Fest, and it ended up being one of the most talked about films of the festival. If the picture above is any indication, you know you're in for a fun and cheesy action film. It's also great with a group of friends.
Happy watching!
