I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Mike Myers seems to be in dire need of a paycheck, since the SHREK franchise is over, so he has decided to run another franchise onto the ground with AUSTIN POWERS 4.
Hitfix got the exclusive that Mike Myers has now finished a deal stating that he will be back on his popular role. Honestly, I am not excited at all for this. Comedians have in the past few years shown themselves to be contradictory and hypocritical. I won't go into too much detail here as I want to write a bigger piece on it, but after seeing people like Adam Sandler make fun at themselves for making bad comedies (FUNNY PEOPLE) only to go on and make a horrible comedy a couple of years later (JACK AND JILL). I have very little respect for comedians who are not Louis C.K.. And Myers, between the streak of very bad movies since the early aughts including THE LOVE GURU, CAT IN THE HAT, and SHREK 4, is definitely getting up there with Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy in terms of poor quality of movies.
What I don't understand is, why bother? There's going to be a very small market for this movie. I saw it when at the prime of it popularity and I loved the first and second, but by the time you had Beyonce in there, I could tell the franchise was running out of steam. Add that to the fact there has been at least 10 years since the last one, I can only hope that people my age have matured in their comedic sensibilities. But who knows? What do you guys think? Would you see another installment in the AUSTIN POWER franchise?
