Jonesy here with my Netflix Instant picks this week. I'm all over the board here with a serious documentary, a semi-older sci-fi flick, and a classic comedy. Enjoy!
Jesus Camp
A compelling and eye-opening documentary that takes a look inside an evangelical camp for children. There are many types of evangelicals in the world, and this is just a snapshot of the extreme subset that we seem to hear about on the news or see on TV. The documentary includes Ted Haggard, a famous (and scandalous) Evangelical leader. If you've ever wondered where their values come from or how these adults end up the way they do, this documentary paints a much clearer picture.
Supposedly based on a true story (actually that's what makes it more fun), FIRE IN THE SKY is the classic alien abduction movie. It happens in a small town, in the middle of the night...you know all the normal plot points. However, the movie itself ends up being a pretty solid sci-fi film, and depicts a pretty frightening..um, "experiment" scene.
Mel Brooks's classic movie before it was a smash-hit musical before it was a movie again. It's slap-stick, funny, witty, plus there's a musical about Hitler...what's not to love?
