Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Revealed! (SPOILERS)

It's not secret that I'm such a fan of twitter's own @HitRecordJoe or Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as he is known in other circles. When I heard earlier that he would be coming to the final installment of the BATMAN saga by director Christopher Nolan, I was even more excited. And now we have word from Variety about who exactly he will be playing. In the interest of keeping people as spoiler free, I'll put his role below. The character itself cold lead to speculation about the plot of the movie so be warned.

Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone, son of the mob boss Carmine Falcone, who was one of the antagonists of BATMAN BEGINS, the one that drove Bruce Wayne to leave Gotham and begin his training as Batman. His character first appeared in the Batman: The Long Halloween story arc, which was seen a way of establishing the character of Two-Face and depicts the earlier years of Batman's career. In this story, we know that Alberto is a jealous but intelligent man, longing for his father's approval, and instead being pushed towards having a "normal" life, he's that of a mobsters'. When mobsters begin dying during the holidays, it is eventually discovered that it was Alberto all along. He mascaraed as the Holiday Killer, even going as far as faking his own death, trying to gain power over Gotham's crime world.

All of this fits rather well with the rumors of the return of the League of Shadows, of which Talia Al-Ghul and Bane, are rumored to be a part of. Alberto fits in well with Selina Kyle/Catwoman because there's a story, Catwoman: When In Rome , in which Catwoman believes to be related to the Falcone family. All of this just makes me even more excited by the great talent and the complexity of the story. There are now 4 villains confirmed, as well as the Gotham PD, which was seen hunting down Batman at the end of THE DARK KNIGHT. I have complete faith that someone like Nolan will be able to pull this off. Guess we'll have to see!


THE DARK KNIGHT RISES comes out July 20, 2012. It stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman. It is directed by Christopher Nolan.
